How to prepare for surgery
Make sure you have time set aside at home for healing, with a minimum of physical strain and limited contact with other people. If you smoke, stop smoking before the surgery. This includes substitutes such as vaping or nicotine gum — nicotine is a vasoconstrictor, a chemical that causes blood vessels to constrict. This slows down the healing process. Don’t take any aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E or herbal supplements within the two weeks before the surgery — these may cause excess bleeding.
