Charlotte’s best rhinoplasty surgeon can evaluate your nose for rhinoplasty surgery
Rhinoplasty is a very popular facial plastic surgery procedure. Many people are unhappy with their nose and often define it as their most prominent feature. There are several techniques to balance the facial appearance, including rhinoplasty and cheek or chin implants. Rhinoplasty is surgery on the nose. It may be done to cosmetically alter the appearance of the nose or it may be required to repair an injury or deformity. Before deciding on rhinoplasty surgery, it is important to understand the procedure and have realistic expectations.
The procedure of Rhinoplasty
Dr. M. Sean Freeman, Charlotte’s top rhinoplastys surgeon always meets with prospective rhinoplasty patients to discuss the procedure and educate them on what to expect. There are two types of rhinoplasty that Dr. Freeman performs. These are the open or external approach and the closed or internal procedure. When at all possible, Dr. Freeman prefers to do the internal rhinoplasty since this procedure has stitches inside the nose where they are not visible. This procedure is typically used when there is not a great deal of modification or work to be done on the nose.
When Dr. Freeman uses the open or external procedure, he also makes some incisions inside the nose, but will also make a small incision under the tip of the nose. This allows Dr. Freeman better access to the internal structure of the nose where he can then make all necessary corrections. There may be a small scar under the nose, but it is usually well hidden and heals well.
If the nose needs to be rebuilt because of an injury or to correct or revise a previous injury, the procedure may be a bit more complicated. Depending upon the complexity of the procedure and the extent of the injury, there may be some loss of tissue, requiring Dr. Freeman to augment the nasal tissue.
Recovery
Rhinoplasty is a relatively painless procedure, however, there may be a bit of recovery required. Dr. Freeman’s patients do not normally require packing in the nasal cavities, but there may be some swelling and bruising. These should go away within ten days or so following the rhinoplasty surgery. Patients may return to normal activities within a few days.
Expectations
Just because a patient is not happy with their nose does not mean they are a good candidate for rhinoplasty. Dr. Freeman will consult with each patient and provide them his analysis of their facial balance and his recommendations for improving their nose and other features. If a patient is too focused on their nose, they may not realize that other aspects of their face may be contributing to their overall unhappiness with their appearance. Dr. Freeman is the Charlotte NC expert in rhinoplasty and will be happy to meet with any patient to determine if this procedure is right for them.
