Teen rhinoplasty surgery – Charlotte, NC

What you need to know about teen rhinoplasty surgery

Many teens and adolescents are unhappy with their appearance.  Before a parent says yes a “nose job”, there are several important factors to consider.  According to Dr. M. Sean Freeman, Charlotte’s top rhinoplasty surgeon, both the teen and the parent need to have realistic expectations from teen rhinoplasty surgery and understand the complications of the procedure.

The best age for teen rhinoplasty surgery

Teen rhinoplasty should not be done before the nose is fully formed.  This is typically around age 14 for girls and age 16 for boys, although individual situations may vary. The teen and their parents will meet with Dr. Freeman for a consultation before he will agree to perform the teen rhinoplasty surgery.  This is so that everyone in the family understands the procedure, what to expect, and what follow-on care may be needed.

The teen rhinoplasty surgery procedure

Dr. Freeman is considered to be one of the top rhinoplasty surgeons in the Southeast United States and is double board-certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and by the American Board of Otolaryngology (head and neck surgery).  When he performs teen rhinoplasty surgery he will choose between two techniques.  These are the open and closed rhinoplasty techniques.  The closed technique is most often used and results in less swelling.  If a teen’s nose requires significant changes, Dr. Freeman may elect to use the open rhinoplasty technique.

If your teen is requesting teen rhinoplasty surgery, call Dr. Freeman to set up a consultation appointment.
